Abstract

|
Congenital hypertrophic pyloric stenosis was described by Hirschsprung in 1887.
It is the disease of newborn and considered as one of the commonest surgical disease in this age group.
Ever since 1912, the surgical treatment of congenital hypertrophic pyloric stenosis has been held to be the method of choice.
Recently, because of better technique and safer conditions in operating rooms, Ramstedt pyloromyotomy is so safe and efficient that the mortality rate is very low.
Its diagnosis usually being made with palpable mass in the right upper guadrant and history of projectile vomiting without bile in the vomitus.
This report consists of 5 cases of congenital hypertrophic pyloric stenosis which has been treated with Ramstedt operation at Hanil Hospital with excellent results for recent years. A brief review of literature was made.
